All ground school classes start at 7 p.m. sharp and will continue until 9:15 p.m. You are welcome to bring a sandwich and come early to enjoy socializing with other students and club members before class begins. 

On the Water Training: Lake Lanier, meet at Aqualand V Dock, Favored End slip

Saturday( 29 April 2023) On the Water

  • 10 a.m.  Pre-sail to meet skippers/trainers (Instructors: All trainers/skippers)
  • 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.  Fun sail 
  • 4:30 - 5:30 p.m.  Post sail dirt up

Monday (1 May 2023) Ground School 

  • 6:30 - 7 p.m.  Check in
  • 7 - 7:15 p.m.  Welcome and Introductions
  • 7:15 p.m. - 7:45 p.m.  Parts of a boat and sailing terminology (Dave Wright)
  • 7:45 - 8 p.m.  Break
  • 8 - 8:30 p.m.   Basic knots (Tom Graham)
  • 8:30 - 8:50 p.m.  Theory of sailing (Chris Webster)
  • 8:50 – 9:10 p.m.  Points of sail (Chris Webster)
  • 9:10 – 9:15 p.m.   Review of this weekend on the water training  (Tom Graham)

Saturday (13 May 2023) On the Water

  • 10:30 a.m.  Pre-sail to meet skippers/trainers  (All trainers/skippers)

Monday (15 May 2023) Ground School 

  • 7 - 7:15 p.m.  Review of what learned on the water (Tom Graham)
  • 7:15 - 7:30 p.m.  Boat courtesy & etiquette  (Rory Robichaux)
  • 7:30 - 7:45 p.m. Tacking and Jibing (basic maneuvers)  (Tedd Meinersmann)
  •                                 Basic Sail Trim (main, jib)  (Tedd Meinersmann)
  • 7:45 - 8 p.m.  Rules of the Road (Tom Graham)
  • 8 - 8:15 p.m.  Break 
  • 8:15 - 8:30 p.m.  Basic knots (Tom Graham)
  • 8:30 - 8:50 p.m.   Safety, PFDs, Man Overboard (Norm Plotkin)
  • 8:45 -  p.m.  Docking, Anchoring, Mooring (Norm Plotkin)

NOTE:  

  • Thanks for your interest!  BFSC membership is required for the class. If you need to signup first, please click here.
  • We'll be using the Gary Jobson's Sailing Fundamentals book for the class which is optionally available for $15 when you sign-up.  You'll receive the book on the first day of ground school (Monday, May 1st).
