For decades, Favored End, our club pontoon, has served as the backbone of our on-water events - from marking courses for race committee, to shuttling folks for Steak Out, and hauling junk for Shore Sweep. Edith Collins bio:

Edith began racing on Lake Lanier in 1982. She first joined BFSC in 1985 and served as Commodore in 1992. She continues to be a member.

Edith became certified as a Judge with US Sailing in 2001 and was certified as a National Judge in 2010.

She has served as the US Sailing Director and Regional Administrative Judge for Area D. She is also certified as an instructor for their Judges’ training courses.

Edith is currently the Chair of the US Sailing Judges’ Committee. In that capacity, she is the chief cat herder for over 200 certified Judges in the United States and the Caribbean.

She has served on protest committees across the country and has served as the Chief Judge for numerous Regional and National Championships including the Thistle Nationals, J105 North American Championships, Sailing World Helly Hansen Race Week in Marblehead MA, and has served on the protest committee for Charleston Race Week since 2005.

Discussion of the Future of Favored End

For decades, our club pontoon has served as the backbone of our on-water events - from marking courses for race committee, to shuttling folks for Steak Out, and hauling junk for Shore Sweep. In 2019, we started a log of the Favored End activities which you can read on the Favored End page.

With a change in marina ownership ending our complimentary slip, we're asking members to weigh in on the path forward. Past Commodore and Bosun Bill Anchors will facilitate the discussion at our September meeting.

John Martin will present "All About Knots"

I started tying knots as a Tenderfoot Boy Scout, about 12 years old. I won a knot tying competition by being able to tie a sheepshank. My prize was a box of chocolate, covered cherries.

We started sailing in the spring of 1971 sailing a 16 foot day sailor.
To date we have owned about a dozen boats. I have sailed and raced on many more. Our current boat is a Cape Dory 31, staysail sloop, with a blue and yellow spinnaker. This is our fifth Cape Dory that we have owned.

Currently I teach two three hour knots clinics with Lanier Sailing Academy. I have taught knots at Junior Sailing camp at Lake Lanier Sailing Club and University Yacht Club.
