LLSC Halloween Open Regatta
October 24 - 26, 2025
{Excerpt from 10/27/25 LARC email}

Mother Nature was again on the Warpath. She was kind to us on Saturday, providing comfortable temperatures and moderate wind on Saturday, though the NNE wind made it difficult for the keelboat course to provide a square starting line. But the dinghies and the juniors courses were set up in the bay and enjoyed the same great wind, but I am sure the wind had more shifts than we experienced in the main part of the lake. But Mother Nature was not going to leave alone because the forecast for Sunday was quite different. She threatened us with rain but took pity on us and delayed until the evening but instead she gave us winds that ranged from 11 to 20 knots and more in the gusts. This day was a challenge for the crew that sat at the front of the boat because they got soaked, not from rain (fortunately) but the waves that pounded the boats. There were fewer boats on the race course on Sunday, but those that brought their foul weather gear had a great time and fast races.
I big shout out to Shannon and Mark Trocolli and Daniel Postel for organizing this excellent event. We are nowhere without our intrepid race committee PRO’s and volunteers. Thanks to Robert Burke who provided a great race to the dinghies which included an incredible 14 MC Scows, Warren Collier who had the daunting task of setting up a course with the NNE wind which is always a difficult wind direction and Ted McGee who lead an awesome bunch of juniors.
After the races on Saturday, Daniel drove the trick or treaters around the cabin colony for some sugar fuel for the evening. This was followed by the costume contest for the junior crowd and I am including the picture of the (should have been) winners of the adult costume contest, the three despicable characters otherwise known as “Fire gasoline and dynamite”. You figure which is what!!
A big thanks to Daniel and his helpers that made the Halloween trophy bags and if you didn’t get to win one, they are available for purchase.
Put this event on your calendar next year, see you on the race course. Dana
