LARC after DARK, Moonlight race #1
Sat. May 22, 2021
We have had some gorgeous Moonlit nights, but I am looking forward to our first Moonlight race of 2021. We will have 4 Saturday night races during this late spring to summer.
#1 May 22
#2 June 19
#3 July 17
#4 Aug 21
We are going to amend the sailing instructions for the Moonlight series this year. We are going to eliminate the skipper’s meeting at 6pm and move to an email registration by Friday at midnight of your intention to sail the next day.
You will receive a text or email 1 ½ to 2 hours before the base start time, with your start time (staggered starts) and the course. Each boat/skipper will need to report their finish time (time of day) within 24 hrs to either stewartdanam (at) me.com or text me, to be scored.
To register, send an email to either stewartdanam (at) me.com or text me at 404/849-1809. You will need to send me the following information; 1) PHRF rating, 2) skipper’s name, 3) sail #, 4) type of boat/name of boat, and 5) if you plan to sail Magnum fleet.
We have a new fleet that will join us for this series, called the Magnum fleet. This fleet has a PHRF rating higher than 80, over 26 feet in length and weighs over 6,000 pounds. We are considering an earlier start time for the Magnum fleet, so boats that qualify should let me know if they are planning on sailing in this fleet. Look for another email about your possible earlier base start time.
The 2021 LARC NOR/SI will be attached to this email *. If you have never sailed in a LARC race, please review and note boundary marks (SI sec 8), Short Finish (SI sec 9b) and Motor Time (SI sec 10b) instructions for staggered starts.
I am looking forward to this first race of the summer series, we should have very comfortable conditions this weekend and I look forward to those nice evening breezes.
Don’t forget to work on your running lights and bring a flashlight.
See you on the race course,
Dana Stewart, LARC administrator
