First Saturday Cruises
Next date - February 4, 2023 (if not too cold)
Set sail with our Cruising Captain Norman Plotkin and his skippers. All members are invited to participate in our First Saturday Cruises. This is a wonderful opportunity for members to bring a guest and learn about our sailing, racing, Barefoot social events, and crew opportunities.
Where: All skippers and guests meet at Sunrise Cove Marina at the Pavilion. Ahead of time, be sure to RSVP via Sign-up Genius once notified by email. The cruising captain determines what the cruise plan is and then assigns "crew" to each boat.
When: First Saturday of the month at 11:00am. Check your schedule and RSVP below.
NOTE: Due to wintry temperatures, we'll pause the cruises until at least February 2023.
Now to the small print... Due to COVID, some Skippers only take out fully vaccinated crew members. As such, in order to assign crew to boats, we're asking for your vaccination status. We hope you understand. When you sign up, please indicate whether or not you have been fully vaccinated. If so, we ask you to bring proof of your vaccination so that we may assign you to skippers that require crew to be vaccinated. As usual, we can not guarantee that there will be enough space for all crew that sign up, but we will do our best to assign all interested members to a boat.
If you have any questions about our cruises or how to participate, please email nlplotkin(at)gmail.com or call 678-871-7937.
*Please note that the dates are subject to change. They may change due to weather, local COVID conditions, regattas, or social events of Barefoot Sailing. To stay current, cruise event notifications will be sent in an email blast, posted on the Barefoot website and/or posted on Facebook with event RSVP's.

We had a willing skipper, but unfortunately, no crew were available for today's cruise. Day was cloudy with predictions of rain that may have kept folks away. Please join us for the next cruise on December 3rd.

Cancelled due to the lingering after-effects of Ian.
September 10, 2022

Because there was very light wind and lots of powerboats chopping up the lake, the few hearty souls that showed up for the first Saturday cruise agreed to motor over to a Cove to enjoy a swim and adult libations. Thanks to Patrick for coming out with his boat and to Lee, Doug, Kerry, Lois and Guest Ben Bailey.

A morning that started cool and breezy evolved into a comfortable, low-wind (sometimes no wind) afternoon....not fast sailing but good for a soothing day on the water.

Weather for this Saturday's "First Saturday Cruise" is looking good. It will be sunny with light winds. But it will fill chilly on the lake with temps getting up to maybe 60 by mid afternoon. If you plan on coming to the cruise as a skipper or crew, please sign up. Dress in layers. Skippers and crews meet at 11 a.m. at the Sunrise Marina clubhouse deck. There will be coffee and donuts for all.

Six Barefoot boats were out on the water Saturday enjoying University Yacht Club's annual July 3rd fireworks show commemorating Independence Day. Thanks to Cruise Captain Norman Plotkin and Lee Cook for taking crew out on Favored End. And a special shout-out to Bruce Barton for immediately stepping up to volunteer his boat for a last minute need.
As Norman recalls, "Barefoot Sailors enjoying the fireworks at UYC where we were aboard the BSC pontoon, Favored End, rafted up with 3 other Barefoot Sailors. Enjoyed the fireworks and the nerve-racking cruise back to Aqualand with all the other boats moving around in the dark."

Barefoot Sailing Club started to cruise again after a year off to stop the spread of COVID. All participants had been vaccinated and enjoyed the early cool but sunny April weather. Two skippers and 5 other club members enjoyed a very light wind and cool sunny day on the lake. When the wind died away we met up at LLSC mooring balls for lunch. The wind appeared to return so we went for a sail. Only to have the wind die off again about 45 minutes later. All in all, though a great start to cruising again. Thanks to Skipper Kerry for participating and bringing along her guests.

It’s been a long time since we’ve had the pleasure of having a First Saturday Cruising event that matches up BFSC members with boats (skippers) with those members without. Barefoot Sailing Club is very happy to announce that the First Saturday Cruise is scheduled for April 3rd. This is great news for all of us long needing to get back to our fun times on the lake.
How to Participate
Be sure to read the "COVID-19 risk waiver of liability" statement. Waivers must be signed and sent to tbeachem (at) synamedia.com to participate in the April 3rd event. Skippers that wish to join the cruise, please notify me, your Cruising Captain, through “sign-up genius” by Friday, April 2nd.
Because some of our members are racing the same Saturday, there will be no skipper’s meeting for the First Saturday Cruise. Skippers, monitor VHF channel 72 and meet up at noon near marker A. Weather permitting, we will sail together down the lake and possibly anchor up for the late afternoon. Skippers will individually invite members without boats who they would like to have aboard. If skippers have room for additional crew and are comfortable having crew
assigned to them, notify me, your cruising captain, through “sign-up genius". Also, please include cell number, boat name, boat size/type, and marina and slip number on the signup or email me.
Members wishing to sail with a skipper:
Members wishing to be assigned to a boat, notify me on “sign-up genius” by Friday, April 2nd. We will make every attempt to assign all interested members to a boat but cannot guarantee it.
For now, we will not be moving between boats during a raft up, and there are no before or after activities.
