Notice of Event/Sailing Instructions
Come out and have fun in the annual Poker Run/ Mad Hatter on Wednesday, January 1, 2020, hosted by Barefoot Sailing Club and Southern Sailing Club. It will be Five-Card Stud with the first card being handed out at the Skipper’s Meeting. The participants will gather four more cards from marks on the lake.
After on the water activities
After the fun on the water, come join us on the hard for the after event Chili/Chowder/Stew/Soup Cook-off party. The party will begin approximately 15:00 at the Branch House Tavern (5466 McEver Rd, Flowery Branch, Ga 30542) . Cost for the party is $5 per person (payable in cash at the event) to cover BFSC costs, free for participants that bring Chili/Chowder/Stew/Soup or some other hot food offering (the Branch House Mgmt is allowing us to bring these items in to the restaurant). It will be the responsibility of the those attending the social gathering at the Branch House to purchase your own beverages, or other non-provided entrees at your own expense.
Rules

The event will be governed by the "rules" as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) 2017-2020 and by commonly accepted Poker Rules (see Appendix B).

This is a fun event! If a boat is so inclined, it may even motor around the course, however, motoring boats will give way to those under sail

Skippers will get their first card at the Skipper’s meeting. This card will be in an envelope that you will be allowed to open before you start on your journey.

A course will be given at the Skipper’s meeting. The course will consist of marks on the lake in Flowery Branch Bay and/or Chattahoochee Bay areas. Boats are free to choose the order in which they take the marks.

Envelopes containing cards will be attached to each mark. Boats should take only one envelope at each mark. The envelopes must remain sealed—any opened envelopes will be disqualified.

Boats will bring the five cards (one from the Skipper’s meeting plus four in sealed envelopes) to the Chili/Chowder/Stew/ Soup Cook-off party.

The best hands presented to the committee at the Chili/Chowder/Stew/Soup Cook-off party will receive prizes.
Entries / Skipper’s Meeting
Eligible skippers are those who attend and register at the Skippers Meeting, Monday, January 1, 2018,
11:00 AM – Aqualand Marina Store parking lot.
Registration
Sign up at skippers' meeting.
Schedule of Event
The Skippers meeting will be held at 11 a.m. prior to the event at Aqualand Marina Store parking lot. Attendance is required to get RC instructions, and the first card. The sailing is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. The first designated mark will be "X" mark (Island 18), but may be moved elsewhere at the discretion of the Race Committee.
Classes and Flags
There will only be one class designated for this event. No flags will be used.
Event Area
The event area will be in Flowery Branch Bay and/or Chattahoochee Bay areas.
The Course
Courses will be designated by the Race Committee using permanent Corps, Lake Lanier Sailing Club marks, or temporary marks. The course will be announced at the Skipper’s Meeting. (See Appendix A)
The Start

The course will be set up for a 1 PM start.

In order to avoid congestion, boats are encouraged to stagger the approach at the “X” mark, or to start at a Mark other than “X”.
The Finish
Boats are finished once they have retrieved the fifth card of the poker hand from their final mark of the course. There is no official finish line, although the BFSC/SSC authorities may remove all unclaimed card envelopes from the marks somewhere in the 15:00-15:30 timeframe.
Scoring
Best poker hand wins.
Time Limit
Poker hands need to be turned into the Race Committee at the designated Party location by 16:30.
Withdrawal
Boats withdrawing from the on the water event hopefully will still come and enjoy the companionship at the after Chili/Chowder/Stew/Soup Cook-off party.
Protests
Protestor is required to provide the protested skipper appropriate refreshment at the Chili/Chowder/Stew/Soup Cook-off party.
Trophies
Special prizes will be awarded to the Skipper with the best poker hands.
Non-Favorable Sailing Conditions
In the event that the Race Committee decides the weather conditions are such that the on water activities will not be safe and/or fun, then we will conduct the Poker Run at the Chili/Chowder/Stew/Soup Cook-off venue.
Changes in Sailing Instructions
Any change to the sailing instructions, including any change to the schedule of event, shall be announced at the Skipper’s Meeting.
Trash
Any boat seen by the Race Committee throwing trash into the lake may be limited to a four card poker hand. Card to be discarded will be one of the cards contained in a sealed envelope before the sealed envelopes are opened. Such penalty will not be grounds for redress.
Disclaimer of Liability
This event is hosted by Barefoot Sailing Club and Southern Sailing Club.
Competitors participate in this event entirely at their own risk. See RRS 4, Decision to Race. The organizing authorities will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with, prior to, during, or after the event. By their participation, any persons involved with this event acknowledge and agree with this provision.
