BVI Cruising Opportunity

Good news.

Are you ready to get away for some much-needed fun in the sun? We are excited to share that the US Virgin Islands has announced that starting September 19th they will be opening their doors for charters again! Get ready to bareboat in the beautiful Caribbean turquoise waters or have a captain and chef on an all-inclusive yacht! Whatever option you choose, the perfect yacht is ready to welcome you aboard for your best vacation on the water yet!

BVI Update On September 1st, the BVI progressed to Phase 4 of their 6-Phase pandemic plan. Visitors will be allowed entry during Phase 5, which we are hoping to happen in October or November at the latest - this is just a guestimate and not an official timeline. When the BVI opens to visitors, we anticipate entry requirements similar to the USVI.

Entry requirements will include having a COVID test 5 days before entry.

Some Lake Lanier Sailors have organized a bareboat charter out of the BVIs from May 1 to May 8.  Delta flies directly to St. Thomas and fares are running about 1/2 of the usual amount. So far we have two 42' monohulls with 3 cabins and 2 heads committed with full crews.  If you are interested in joining this cruise and can gather enough crew to fill a 2, 3 or 4 cabin monohull or catamaran, contact your cruising captain, Norman Plotkin, to learn more details and estimated costs.

Cruising During the Pandemic

July 7, 2020

This spring and summer, Barefoot Sailors have not been able to enjoy our normal First Saturday Cruises or cruiser raft-ups and water socials.  Due to social distancing rules, it has not been possible for members without boats to enjoy sailing with boat owners.

Going forward, until the social distancing rules are relaxed, and the COVID-19 virus is tamped down, it will not be possible to have organized social or cruising events.

Boat owners, however, have been able to use their boats on the lake and several have informally rafted up, though everyone staying on their own boat to be “socially distant”.

I encourage skippers to organize informal raft-ups or group sails with their friends and family.  Those that feel safe with guests may invite club members that do not have boats to sail along.  However, there can be no Club organized social events until the virus is licked and social distancing rules relaxed.

We all hope to be able to have organized social events in the future, but for now, there will be no organized cruise events.
